Context:
A community health system was facing an increasingly challenging competitive environment. Key competitors were stealing valuable commercial market share and the organization needed a new strategy to compete effectively. The organization’s leadership engaged Ridgeline to support an enterprise strategy refresh and explore opportunities tied to developing population health strategies
Approach:
In partnership with the organization’s executive leadership and strategy team, Ridgeline completed a market landscape analysis to provide a common fact base for strategic decision making. Informed by this analysis, we developed a variety of strategic options and initiatives. We launched an executive steering committee to develop the overall strategy and support efficient decision-making. An important element of the go-forward strategy was the development of population health strategies for government payer segments. To accelerate these population health efforts, Ridgeline completed a population health assessment for the organization which resulted in actionable, prioritized recommendations for organizations to pursue.
Results:
The organization was able to efficiently develop the optimal enterprise strategy and population health strategy. The expected impact of the strategy included commercial market share growth and improved financial performance overall, as well as improved per patient economics in serving Medicare and Medicaid patients based on population health strategies. The population health assessment and roadmap have helped guide these efforts moving forward.
